Letters to the Editor

Dear Sir,

I am Frank P. Araujo, an anthropologist who worked in the southeast Kordofan, east of Kadugli in the Southern Kordofan from 1979 through 1982. I worked with the Western Sudan Agricultural Research Program while on faculty at Washington State University. I was located, for the most of my time in that region in the villages of Shatt Dammam and Shatt Sufaya. I am also quite familiar with the work of others in the region, e.g., my friend, Leif Manger’s work in Lafofa and John Hale, then with Huntings, Ltd., in Tabanya, Katcha and Jebel Teis.

I’ve only recently stumbled on your site and am very delighted to see you are working to raise global awareness of the plight of the Nuba Hill communities under the repressive Islamic government. I’ve never published any of my work because of a fear of repercussions on many of my informants. And, over the years, I’ve only received sad news from there.

Please count on me for any support or information which would further your cause. I’d be only too delighted to help.

Dear Sir,

I am writing to congratulate you on producing the fine journal ‘Nuba Vision’ I am currently writing a guidebook to Sudan to be published by Bradt Travel Guides in January 2005. I have found Nuba Vision a fascinating to read and enlightening on all matters of Nuba culture.

More than this, during this crucial stage of political developments in Sudan and the ongoing peace process, I believe that ‘Nuba Vision’ provides an important voice for the Nuba. A comprehensive peace in Sudan is impossible without justice for all its people. The Nuba have a good advocate in ‘Nuba Vision’ to present their case to the Sudanese and the rest of the world.

Yours Sincerely

Paul Clammer

Dear Editor

I have been reading your Nuba Vision newsletter which is published at your website for the past three years. I found it a very interesting and informative newsletter, and I would like to congratulate you on this effort. I admire your analysis on the current political developments and more interestingly your analysis in the last two issues on IGAD peace process. The question you raised is what kind of peace the Parties are contemplating for the country? And will it be peace with justice or peace for the sake of peace? This was excellent. Going through the six Naivasha Protocols signed recently, I could hardly envisage any solution to the Nuba issue, do you? Let me know.

Keep up the good work.

Yours sincerely
